Intruder Drill – Thursday, September 20
As part of our yearly planned drills, this Thursday, September 20, we will have a second Intruder Drill for our school. The second drill will be 9:00 and 11:00 AM.

Immunization & Physical Examination Deadline
State required 9th grade physical examinations and immunization forms must be turned into the school office on or prior to Monday, October 1. Students without the required information will be excluded from school starting October 1 – until the requirements are fulfilled. Included are 9th grade physicals, 12th grade Meningococcal vaccination, and any student missing any immunizations. Contact the nurse’s office if you are unsure if you have your requirements turned in.

PSAT/NMSQT – Now open to Sophomores & Freshman
We would like to open the PSAT/NMSQT test on October 10 to any Sophomore or Freshman that wants to take the practice SAT. It is $20 and you can sign up when you pay in the Counseling Office.

Sophomores and Freshmen are not eligible for National Merit status but it is a great opportunity to get ready for the SAT.

Sign-up is going on now for juniors interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT Test on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. This is an optional test for students which serves not only as a preliminary practice for the SAT juniors will take in the spring, but also the qualifier test for the National Merit Scholarship.

To participate in the test, students should sign up in the Counseling Office by Monday, October 1. The cost of the test is $20.00 and checks can be made payable to Sycamore High School. This fee must be paid at the time of sign up. Students report to Auditorium on Wednesday, October 10. They will be excused for testing. They will have the option to be excused after testing or return to class after lunch.

IMPORTANT Senior Yearbook Picture Information – SENIORS ONLY
Seniors who may have missed the opportunity to get their senior portraits done this summer or who would like to have retakes done can come to the high school on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 for senior portraits. They will have the choice of taking their photos this weekend for the yearbook or waiting until Tuesday, October 9 for the photo retake date. Seniors can have one outfit. Prestige Portraits will also mail this information home to all seniors.

Seniors who have already had a senior portrait done and will not be getting retakes, the deadline to select your yearbook picture is fast approaching. Seniors must select which image they would like for the 2018-19 yearbook or one will be selected for them. Directions on how to select the image are listed below.

Cap & Gown Orders – SENIORS ONLY
Herff Jones will be here to take orders for Graduation Announcements and senior products including Class Rings and Letter Jackets on Tuesday, September 18th during lunch periods in the Cafeteria. Cap and Gown orders should be turned in at this time. Complete senior packets are available in the Main Office if you did not receive one during the Senior Meetings. Career in Healthcare Exploration – Sophomores and Juniors
Sophomores or juniors who are interested in exploring a career in healthcare should consider applying for the Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program. Deadline to apply is September 19.

Enrichment Speaker
There will not be an Enrichment Speaker this week due to NHS meeting.

2017-18 Yearbooks have arrived!
If you would like to still purchase a 2017-18 yearbook the cost is $60 and checks can be made out to Sycamore High School. If you missed the distribution days, yearbooks can be picked up in Ms. Keca’s classroom B211 after school only.

Students from the Class of 2018 can pick up their yearbooks with Ms. Phelps in the main office during the hours of 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday-Friday.

Parents and students should understand vaping is banned from school. If a student is caught vaping or in possession of a vape, they will face appropriate consequences and be referred to the police. Per the City of Sycamore ordinance prohibiting the purchase, possession or use of tobacco products by anyone under the age of 18, violations will result in a mandatory court hearing date. Please take time to read the parent/student handbook information below regarding alcohol, drugs, tobacco and e-cigarettes. Sycamore High School Handbook
Alcohol, Drugs or Look-Alike Drugs, Tobacco or Electronic Cigarettes: It is illegal in Illinois for anyone under the age of 21 to be in possession, consume, and/or under the influence of alcohol, defined by observable behaviors, physical appearance/symptoms, noticeable indicators (i.e. odor or alcohol present on breath, etc.). It is also illegal for anyone to possess, sell, manufacture, or use alcohol/tobacco/drugs or look-alike drugs on school property, school buses, or at any school related activities. The prohibition of electronic cigarettes applies. Electronic cigarettes are defined as a cigarette-shaped device containing nicotine or non-nicotine based liquid that is vaporized and inhaled. All city, state and federal laws apply to the use and possession of drugs and alcohol.

The City of Sycamore has an ordinance prohibiting the purchase, possession, or use of tobacco products by anyone under the age of 18. In accordance with that statute, students found to be in violation will receive a police referral. In addition, students will face school disciplinary consequences.

Sycamore High School Tutoring
Tutoring is available to SHS students on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, Sunday night from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Library. Pizza will be served on Sundays!

Math Resource Material Adoption
Sycamore Community School District 427 will be recommending the adoption of a new instructional resource to be used for High School Math at the September 25 Board of Education meeting. These materials will be on public display through 4:00 PM on September 24. If you would like to view these materials please contact the Main Office at Sycamore High School.
