Career in Healthcare Exploration – Sophomores and Juniors
Sophomores or juniors who are interested in exploring a career in healthcare should consider applying for the Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program. Deadline to apply is September 19. PSAT/NMSQT Test for Juniors
Sign-up is going on now for juniors interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT Test on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. This is an optional test for students which serves not only as a preliminary practice for the SAT juniors will take in the spring, but also the qualifier test for the National Merit Scholarship.
To participate in the test, students should sign up in the Counseling Office by Monday, October 1. The cost of the test is $20.00 and checks can be made payable to Sycamore High School. This fee must be paid at the time of sign up. Students report to Auditorium on Wednesday, October 10. They will be excused for testing. They will have the option to be excused after testing or return to class after lunch.

Sycamore Education Foundation annual “Take Root” fundraiser will be held on Saturday, September 22, at 6:00 PM Tickets are available to purchase online. Please visit www.sycamoresef.org for more information.
First National Challenge Tickets
First National Challenge Tickets are on sale through Friday, September 14 at 12:00 PM. They can be purchased at the middle school, high school (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM & 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM) and at First National Bank locations. The cost is $6 for students and $12 adults which includes the pork chop meal. The Sophomore game starts at 5:15 PM and Varsity at 7:30 PM. Our Enrichment Speaker on Thursday, August 30 will be Diane Hammon discussing Real Estate. The enrichment speakers begin at 8:00 AM in the Auditorium.

Class Ring and School Jacket Orders
On September 17 Herff Jones will be in the cafeteria from 5:00 to 7:00 PM taking orders from Sophomores and Juniors for class rings and school jackets.
2017-18 Yearbooks have arrived!
If you would like to still purchase a 2017-18 yearbook the cost is $60 and checks can be made out to Sycamore High School. If you missed the distribution days, yearbooks can be picked up in Ms. Keca’s classroom B211 after school only.
Students from the Class of 2018 can pick up their yearbooks with Ms. Phelps in the main office during the hours of 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday-Friday.

Fieldhouse Open House
Field House Open Gym started Tuesday, September 4 and will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 – 9:00 PM unless otherwise noted.
Powder Puff Registration
Attention all Junior and Senior girls registration for powder puff is now open. Please visit https://sycamorehs.8to18.com/ to register. Payment of $15 is due at the time of registration, price includes your t-shirt. The schedules will be posted outside the athletic office and on the athletic website (http://il.8to18.com/sycamorehs) once they become available. Parents and students should understand vaping is banned from school. If a student is caught vaping or in possession of a vape, they will face appropriate consequences and be referred to the police. Per the City of Sycamore ordinance prohibiting the purchase, possession or use of tobacco products by anyone under the age of 18, violations will result in a mandatory court hearing date. Please take time to read the parent/student handbook information below regarding alcohol, drugs, tobacco and e-cigarettes. Sycamore High School Handbook:
Alcohol, Drugs or Look-Alike Drugs, Tobacco or Electronic Cigarettes: It is illegal in Illinois for anyone under the age of 21 to be in possession, consume, and/or under the influence of alcohol, defined by observable behaviors, physical appearance/symptoms, noticeable indicators (i.e. odor or alcohol present on breath, etc.). It is also illegal for anyone to possess, sell, manufacture, or use alcohol/tobacco/drugs or look-alike drugs on school property, school buses, or at any school related activities. The prohibition of electronic cigarettes applies. Electronic cigarettes are defined as a cigarette-shaped device containing nicotine or non-nicotine based liquid that is vaporized and inhaled. All city, state and federal laws apply to the use and possession of drugs and alcohol.
The City of Sycamore has an ordinance prohibiting the purchase, possession, or use of tobacco products by anyone under the age of 18. In accordance with that statute, students found to be in violation will receive a police referral. In addition, students will face school disciplinary consequences.
Sycamore High School Tutoring
Tutoring is available to SHS students on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, Sunday night from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Library. Pizza will be served on Sundays!
Math Resource Material Adoption
Sycamore Community School District 427 will be recommending the adoption of a new instructional resource to be used for High School Math at the September 25 Board of Education meeting.
