Argentina Rotary Short Term Exchange Program
The Sycamore Rotary Club is looking for students and families interested in taking part in a short-term Rotary Exchange with our sister Rotary Club in Argentina.

With the Rotary Exchange program your family would host a student during the 2018-19 school year, from mid-January to the end of February (approximately 6 weeks). The student would live with you and attend Sycamore High School. In June-July of 2019 (approximately 6 weeks) your child would go to Argentina to live with the family of the child you hosted and attend their local high school.
The short-term Rotary Exchange program has been an excellent experience for all parties over the past years. If you or your student would like to learn more about this amazing opportunity please contact Tim Carlson.

Fall Orientations Meetings
This week, SHS school counselors will finish meeting with students for their fall orientations. During September and October, counselors met with their students in groups during spartan stretch based on their grade level and last names: Mrs. Templin (A-G), Mrs. Kirchmann (H-N) and Ms. Grimes (O-Z). If you would like to see the presentations, they are all available on the high school website.

FASFA Nights – October 16th & 18th
There are two upcoming opportunities to get help completing your FAFSA. On October 16th from 5-7pm, Kishwaukee College will host a completion night in Room A1345 on their campus. You can attend this event, even if your student will not be attending Kish in the fall. Also, on Thursday, October 18th, the Sycamore High School counseling office will be hosting a FAFSA Completion event from 3:10-6pm in Room R109. Plan to attend one of these events if you think you could use help completing your FAFSA online.

Even if you do not think that you will qualify for student aid, most scholarships require you to fill out the FAFSA in order to qualify for financial support. Please bring your 2017 income tax information/forms, social security number, driver’s license, and Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) number to these events. You can go to their website before the event to create your FSA ID or this can be created at the time of application. Parents and students must have their own ID.

October 1st was the opening day to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the 2019-2020 college year. If you have a senior who will be attending college next fall, you should be filling out this form.

State and federal law require school districts to release names, addresses and telephone numbers of high school students to military recruiters unless parents or students have advised the District that they do not want the District to disclose such information without their prior written consent.

If you do not want the District to release demographic information to military recruiters or other individuals, you must notify Mr. Tim Carlson at Sycamore High School via email and should specify the student’s name and identification number, and list the types of information that should not be released.

Parent Tip
College visits…early and often. Seniors will not be in attendance on April 9th, what great opportunity to visit a campus. Check Naviance for upcoming Universities/Colleges coming to SHS.
