Student At Pottery Wheel Sculpting a Vase With Gray Clay
The Art Department at SHS believes the arts relate to all aspects of life, from what we see to how we process information. Developing an ability to see, process, and record information is an integral part of a visual arts education.

Every student has the ability to be creative, and the Art Department exists to develop that creativity — regardless of a student’s current artistic ability. The Art Department builds on students’ natural creativity and provides the resources they need to expand their knowledge and problem solving skills.

After taking Studio Art or Visual Cultures, students can choose to take Drawing, Painting, Ceramics or Digital Studio art classes based on their interests. The Art Department also offers a number of opportunities for students to show off their artwork outside of the classroom, including at school and community art shows and by participating in the art club.
