Checking in on Student Grades

With just over a month left in the current school year (less for seniors!), be sure that you are regularly checking on your student’s grades. If they are not passing a class, they should be talking to their teacher immediately and developing a plan to improve their grade as soon as possible.

A Note from Scott Mertens — SHS Music Department Achievement

Sycamore High School Music Department placed 3rd in the 2022 IHSA Music Sweepstakes competition in Class A.  These awards were based on results from student solo and small ensemble performances at the IHSA Solo/Ensemble Festival in Harvard, Illinois, and also from Band, Orchestra, and Choir performances at the recent IHSA Organizational Festival (also in Harvard).  The SHS Orchestra program placed 1st in Class A for their Solo/Ensemble results.

Our results this year are an absolute tribute to the dedication and excellence of our SHS Music students.  Their motivation and determination is what allowed Sycamore to thrive in this competition, and they should take great pride in their achievement. Their accountability, their attention to detail, and their willingness to work together for common goals are all traits that will serve them well. Also, congratulations go to their teachers and private instructors, whose efforts in working with our students was key to their success.  Their trophy is an award that our students, school, and community can take pride in.

This is the seventh time that Sycamore HS has placed in the Top 3 since 2009, and it is our fourth consecutive Top 3 finish (nice work, seniors!)

Prom will be held on May 14, 2022, at The Duke Ellington Ballroom, at NIU. Prom is for Juniors and Seniors only. More information can be found at the link below.

Technology News

Chromebook Chargers

We have been experiencing quite a few Chromebooks coming in with charging issues. Upon further investigation, we have discovered that students are using other device chargers to charge their Chromebook. It is very important that your Chromebook be charged with the charger you were provided for your Chromebook. Chargers have different electrical specifications and using the wrong charger can result in damage to your Chromebook. If you have lost or damaged your charger you must purchase a new one in the Main Office. These chargers are specifically designed to be used for Chromebooks. Damage created to the Chromebook due to improper charging could result in you being responsible for the cost of a whole new Chromebook, which is around $300.00. The cost of the new charger is only $22.00. Please see Mrs. Wolf in the Main Office to purchase a new charger. Payment is by cash or checks only. You are responsible for returning the charger with your Chromebook upon graduation.

Senior Chromebook Return

Seniors please take note, that before graduation, you will be required to return your Chromebook and charger. If you do not have a working charger or have lost your charger you will automatically be billed $22.00 for a charger. If you do not have your Protective Case you will also be billed the cost of $40.00. All fees must be paid prior to receiving your graduation tickets.

Seniors — Final Transcripts

Seniors should start requesting their final transcript to be sent to their college once they definitely decide where they are planning to attend.  The Counseling Office will email out instructions to all seniors soon - so please be sure that seniors complete this step carefully.  Transcripts will be finalized for seniors shortly after graduation and then they will be sent to colleges.

Scholarships and Senior Awards Night

Any senior who applied for scholarships and will be recognized at our Senior Awards Night on May 19th will receive an email approximately a week before to let them know if they will be receiving an award. Please be sure to be in attendance if you will be recognized with a scholarship or award.  SHS does not tell students what they won before award night, just if they have been selected for an award.
