Sycamore Community School District 427 Board of Education Earns 2026 Governance Recognition

Sycamore Community School District 427 Board of Education Earns 2026 Governance Recognition

The Sycamore Community School District 427 Board of Education has been recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) for its exceptional governance practices. Sycamore CUSD 427 was one of 53 Illinois school districts to earn the School Board Governance Recognition honor for its effective governance behaviors and its commitment to obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead the district.

IASB’s School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges local boards of education that practice good governance behaviors as outlined by IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. The focus of Governance Recognition is on full board development and participation.

“On behalf of our district, I want to congratulate the Board of Education on receiving the IASB Board Governance Award,” said Dr. Kristen Campbell, Superintendent. “This honor reflects their unwavering commitment to strong governance and their dedication to serving our students, staff, and community. We're proud to see that commitment recognized, and we look forward to building on this foundation together.”

The Sycamore CUSD 427 Board of Education regularly participates in professional development and governance training, engages in strategic goal-setting and monitoring, and works collaboratively with district leadership to maintain accountability and advance the district's priorities. The Board also provides opportunities for community engagement and works to ensure its governance practices remain focused on the district's mission and the success of all students.

“Based on IASB’s published recipient history, this is the Sycamore Board’s first recorded School Board Governance Recognition. The designation follows a review of our documented work over the past 24 months in goal setting, community engagement, policy review, superintendent evaluation, and continuing education. IASB’s criteria recognize boards that model governance best practices on an ongoing basis. We will continue reviewing our practices, monitoring progress toward District goals, and working with IASB on continued Board development,” said Mr. Michael DeVito, Board President.

The School Board Governance Recognition program highlights the connection between effective governance and positive outcomes for students, staff, and school communities. Boards meeting the program's requirements receive the honorary distinction for two years.

The Illinois Association of School Boards is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening public schools through local citizen control. IASB provides training, resources, advocacy, and services designed to support effective school board governance throughout Illinois.
