Welcome to the Social Studies Department at Sycamore High School
Thomas Jefferson emphasized that the vitality of a democracy depends upon the education and participation of its citizens. Due to the fact that our democracy is constantly evolving it is in need of citizens who can adapt to its enduring traditions and values. Meeting that need is the mission of the Sycamore High School social studies department. After taking the required amount of social studies courses, our students will develop a core of basic knowledge and an ability to think in a critical manner. The ultimate goal of the Sycamore High School social studies department is to turn our well-informed citizens who will be motivated to participate in civic and community life as active, informed citizens.
As each teacher has a different schedule, the best way to reach them is by email. Please consult the individual teacher’s syllabus to determine the best time to contact them. We do encourage any questions about student performance to be made after asking the student and consulting the parent portal.
The social studies department uses a standardized grade scale. Refer to individual teacher syllabus for a more concise description of graded material.
Your child’s graded work is an indicator of performance in each class. We encourage the use of our Parent Portal to review your child’s grades on a regular basis. Grades will be updated on a regular basis. Please discuss with the individual teacher the method which grades will be entered.
We look forward to working with the students and parents in achieving both their and our goals.
