SciFi Club Constitution

Preamble:

We, the Science-Fiction Club, do declare ourselves a club dedicated to the notion of fellowship, good humor and kindness to all that share our fellow interests. We declare that all are welcome and seen equal before the club’s populous, and we the club’s members will adhere to the constitution set before us, so that we may always come together in fellowship, and pursue our fellow interests in peace and harmony.

Article I:

The purpose of Article I is to define the executive officer positions and the duties associated with each post.

A: All officers will be chosen before the end of each year, and take office at the first meeting of the following year. Current officers and the sponsor will jointly select the future officers.

B: The President and Sergeant-At-Arms shall always be seniors; the Vice-President, a junior; and the Facilities Manager, either a sophomore or junior

C: President- The duties of the Sci-Fi Club president shall include, but are in no way limited to, the following:

  • Organization of Club committees (i.e. Homecoming)
  • Observation and distribution of refreshment at the appointed time
  • General security
  • Post meeting clean-up/shutdown

D: Sergeant-At-Arms- The duties of the Sci-Fi Club Sergeant-At-Arms include, but are in no way limited to, the following:

  • Organization of Club committees (i.e. Homecoming)
  • Observation and distribution of refreshment at the appointed time
  • General Security
  • Post-meeting clean-up/shutdown

E: Vice President The duties of the Sci-Fi Club Vice-President include, but are in no way limited to, the following:

  • Collection of club dues
  • Keeping a member list (those who have paid the membership fee)
  • General security
  • Post meeting clean-up/shutdown

F: Facilities Manager- The duties of the Sci-Fi Club Facilities Manager include, but are in no way limited to, the following:

  • Managing A/V equipment
  • Managing the club’s recycling program
  • General security
  • Post meeting clean-up/shutdown

G: Other positions may be created as the sponsor sees fit, however, officers other than those listed here will not be a part of executive decisions unless otherwise noted.

Article II:
The purpose of Article II is to establish a code of conduct, as well as consequences. It is the responsibility and duty of all members to report any violation of the rules outlined here to either an officer, sponsor, or other adult supervisor. As a general rule, all punishments will be progressive.

A: Sci-Fi Club is a part of Sycamore High School, and as such, all rules and regulations apply as outlined in the student handbook.
B: At the Sci-Fi Club any form of harassment will not be tolerated. This includes but is in no way limited to verbal, physical, sexual, or racial harassment, bullying, intimidating, or fighting.
C: Damage/theft of school property or the property of others who are attending the club will not be tolerated.
D: Insubordination to the Sponsor of Sci-Fi, an officer, or any other supervisor present will not be tolerated
E: The use and/or possession of illegal drugs anywhere on school property will not be tolerated.
F: In the event that a minor infraction occurs, as deemed by an officer or sponsor, the offender will be given two verbal warnings before being removed from the meeting.
G: In the event of a gross infraction, as deemed by the sponsor of Sci-Fi Club and an officer, the offender may be asked to leave the meeting immediately.
H: In the event of repeated infractions the officers and sponsor may ban a person for the duration of one meeting to a year, subject to approval by a review board consisting of all officers, the sponsor, and a member in good standing.
I: Should police or the school punish a person, Sci-Fi club may revoke meeting privileges as they see fit.
J: The sponsor reserves the right to remove a member/attendee from a meeting. Gross infractions may result in a permanent removal from club activities.

Article III:
The purpose of Article III is to present all general information not covered in the previous articles.

A: To be regarded as a member, all persons must pay a membership fee of $2, to be paid to the Vice-President.
B: All persons attending a meeting must either pay an amount deemed by the club as a due, or a larger amount, for pizza and soda, to be distributed at the meeting.
C: All money made by the club will be put into a general account that will be kept, and supervised, by the sponsor.
D: All property brought to Sci-Fi club meetings is brought at the owner’s own risk.
E: This constitution will take effect at the beginning of the 2005-06 School year, pending approval by the club and signatures of all current officers and the sponsor.
